teamDrive3 linux client & multiple desktops?

Looks like the linux TD client doesn't start a 2nd instance if it detects it is running already for the user. This is probably wise, as it avoids multiple instances trying to sync the same local Space.

However, since both Gnome and KDE allow a user to have multiple desktops running through VNC, this means the user doesn't have access to the GUI anywhere except on the initial desktop where TD client was started. Most of our worlds won't fall apart because of this, but this points to an underlying design issue: the client tasks of connecting and updating with the server are locked into a single GUI interface. While OK on single-desktop systems like Windows and Mac OS X, this doesn't mesh well with the Linux multiple-desktop paradigm.

My suggestion/request: How about separating out the user interface (GUI or cmd-line) from the client operations, and have a single low-level client running that can be accessed from (potentially multiple) GUI client(s) or cmd-line clients?

From browsing the forums, it looks like folks have been clamoring for a cmd-line interface for several years (which TD folks seem to have been promising "next year" for several years...). Separating out the user interface from the client sync'ing tasks would provide an easier route to accomplish this, and one that avoids maintaining parallel trees for the low-level tasks.
