iWork 2013 Numbers 3.0 Keynote 6.0 Pages 5.0

Apple changed the file format of their new iWork 2013 apps, Numbers 3.0, Keynote 6.0 and Pages 5.0

You can store and sync these files with TeamDrive and open the documents in the file system.
But you cannot open the files in the TeamDrive Explorer and versioning does not work.

You can export the files to a Numbers `09 or equivalent iWork ´09 format and versioning and file opening works fine as before.

We hope this change is a bug from Apple and will be fixed soon.

Previous iWork apps were using the same concept as containers like MS Office Apps (.pptx, .xlsx, ...)
That´s the way syncing causes no problems. The new file format from Apple´s Apps is unreliable as it is not packaged and can not be versioned and controlled well.

And TeamDrive users are not alone with their headache

A customer of TeamDrive just forwarded us a response from Dropbox support regarding the same issue:

----
Thanks for contacting Dropbox Support!

The latest version of iWork (upgraded with Mavericks) changes the way files are saved. Instead of individual files, changes are now stored in file packages (archive folders). This prevents the Dropbox application from correctly synchronizing those changes. Our engineers are aware of this issue and are working on a fix to synchronize the new iWork files, however we can’t give you an exact timeline on when this fix will become available.

Currently, the only workaround available to keep these files in sync is to downgrade to the previous version of iWork. To downgrade you can go to your Applications folder and install the previous version of iWork by running the installation file in the iWork 09 folder that the upgrade should’ve left in place.

We apologize for the inconvenience this might cause. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can do.

Best,
Alisa

Has there been any work done on resolving this issue?

I note that DropBox have resolved the problem (although its
a little bit weird - in the folder list the file shows as 0.00bytes,
but on the right it shows the correct size, and you can open in pages).

Obviously (from a security perspective) this is a bad thing to do because
the file will get immediately copied up to iCloud.

Cheers.
Paul.
