FileServer <--> TDPS sync

Postby rosch » 17 Apr 2013, 22:56

Hi,

We are testing TD3 and TDPS to provide "private cloud" file access to our users (Win, Mac, iOS, Android).
We (admins) are really pleased about the client and the security features, great job! :D
Actually there are two problems which prevent "professional" licensing and a "going production".

- Is there a possibility to "link" directories on a fileserver to spaces directly on TDPS, and avoid to store all files double (on fileserver and TDPS)?
Will this be possible in the future?

- We need an "auto offline" feature for selected directories and/or spaces, especially for iOS and Android clients, since our users are often travelling
in areas with limited internet access (train, outback,...). "Automatic Offline sync" is one of the key features why they prefer dropbox now. :(

regards

1. All data stored on the TDPS is encrypted. I don't think there is way to link the data from your file server directly to the TDPS. You're welcome to try though. Maybe you can find a way. But what you could consider is syncing everything from the file server to the TDPS (I imagine you have already done that, hence the question), install a TeamDrive client on the File Server and join the all the Spaces. Then you can set the Spaces to 'meta-data only' (download directory information only). That means that the files are stored on the server, the client will download the directory info of new files added to the Spaces but it won't download the files to the file system until the manually do so. Of course when you sync you will already have the files in the file system. After you've made the folders meta-data only you can right click on files and remove them from the file system. If you have a lot of Spaces then you could delete the Spaces locally and rejoin them with the option "download directory information only". This option is only available with a Professional license and that's probably why you haven't seen it yet since you're testing it with a free license.

2. What do you mean by auto offline sync? Do you mean make data available to be seen offline? If so then that feature is available on the mobile clients.
